In this Bonus Episode we play five rounds of Guess That Sound to help put the theory of the Scientific Method into practice! This is fun for the whole family. Be prepared to complete all 5 steps of the scientific method together.
THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD:

Why, hello, hello, I'm Mimi Fotz, and this is a very special bonus episode of Hello from the Van. I am so excited that you have chosen to join us for this very special bonus episode. For this episode, we will be playing five rounds of Guess That Sound. As a reminder, the entire purpose of this bonus episode is to get us to practice the scientific method in that same vein. Let's review it. There are five steps question, guess, act, analyze, then report. So remember, we start with a question. The question this entire episode will be: what's that sound? Next, you'll make your guess. This is a just an educated guess called a hypothesis. So you'll make your guess, then we will act on it. You will try to recreate the sound. I have chosen sounds that you should be able to make in your home. Next, you are going to analyze it. You'll compare your sound to mine, and then we'll report. I'll tell you what the sound was. And with that, let's get started. Our first sound coming in three, two, one. All right, do you have some ideas? Go ahead and make your hypothesis. I'm gonna play it one more time. Are you ready for a hint? This is a common household item that at least someone in your house should be using at least once every day. I'm now going to play 20 seconds of just regular music. During this 20 seconds, you go ahead and see if you can find the item and recreate the sound that I just made, okay? Go ahead. In three, two, one. All right, here's your answer. It's a hairbrush. That's right, it's a hairbrush brushing through hair. Did you get it right? You guys are incredible. All right, on to the next one. Here we go. Here's your sound number two in three, two, one. Do you have your hypothesis? Start experimenting. Go find that sounds. I'm gonna play the sound one more time. You see if your sound sounds like mine, and then I will give you the answer. And now for the reveal, sound number two is a zipper. Did you get a zipper? Way to go, you guys are amazing! Let's get into the third sound in three, two, one. It's a short one. I'll play it two more times and then we'll start the music. I'll give you 15 seconds this time. Ready? Go experiment. We've done our experiment. Now let's analyze. Is what you have the same as what I have? Here's that sound one more time. And the answer to question number three is a refrigerator door. Did you get it right? That one was really difficult. That one was really hard. So if you didn't get it, don't worry about it. We have two more left. Guess that's sound number four. Here we go. This is something you definitely have at your house. I'm going to play it twice more, then I'm only gonna give you 10 seconds. I think you can do this one in 10 seconds. So we'll listen to it two more times, and then you have 10 seconds to experiment. So make it fast. Here we go. And the answer to guess that sound number four is a door. It's a door opening. And now the final round of guess that sound in three, two, one. Here it is two more times in a row. You now have 15 seconds to experiment and find that sound. Go! The fifth and final sound is a keyboard. Yep, like on a computer, it's a keyboard. So how did you do with guess that sound? Yeah, did you do really well? Not so well. That's alright. It's just a fun way to apply the scientific method. Before I go, I just have to review the scientific method one more time. It always starts with a what? A question. We start with a question. Today, what's that sound? Next we go into our educated guess called a hypothesis. You guys are so smart. Then we act. This includes experimenting and writing it down. Then we analyze and we report. The five steps of the scientific method. Question, guess, act, analyze, and report. You guys are incredible. I will see you next week when we talk about conspiracy theories. Yep, we're gonna talk about conspiracy theories, hoax, truths, and fiction. And what's the difference between all those four things? I'm Mimi Fotz, and this has been a bonus episode of Hello from the Van.
